5 months, and counting
After spending lockdown 1 in a somewhat cloudy state of mind, I wasn’t quite sure what to think about spending almost a whole year completely sober…
I can’t say that wine hasn’t passed my lips in 5 whole months, it has, but this is more as a small form of torture, to remind me of what I could be drinking as I quietly resort back to my glass of sparkling water.
Exaggerations aside, this really hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it might be. Most of all because I really haven’t felt like drinking but secondly since I see it as a small challenge, one where every day I’m crowned the winner!

The dreamiest glass of…
Nevertheless, all of this sobriety has got me thinking about which glass of wine I’ll be most craving when I can finally drink again. Whatever the vino, it’s going to be one dreamy moment…
Here are the moments when I’ve felt the most like I’m missing out on a glass or two:
- When we’re eating the creamiest homemade chicken risotto which demands for some kind of refreshing, fruity white, like Pinot Blanc from Alsace or a Vionger from California…mmm
- When I’m cuddled up by myself with a rom com on the sofa with sour cream and onion crisps I just would love a generous glug of cranberry and cherry noted Cote du Rhone…
- When it was New Year’s Eve, I could have devoured a few bottles of sparkling wine, lets be honest..
- When there’s a gorgeous sunset outside our flat and a homemade mulled wine would go down a treat…
These are all moments where I’ve been the most drawn to having a glass of wine, although the thought is always temporary and fleeting as I return to address what really matters…I’m doing the best I can to grow the healthiest and happiest baby possible.
Now it’s all about looking forward to the future and if that involves glasses of sparkling white on bar terraces or mugs of tea in front of the T.V with our little one, it’s going to be a great one.
That sound like a big and good decision. My wife has been teetotal all of her life so giving up during pregnancy wasnโt a problem. During these 9 month periods she read more books than ever before in her life believing it would have an influence …… sheโs from Nepal ….. ๐๐. But …. both of our children went to university, one a lifelong teetotaller and one the same until she was around 35. Clearly no influence from me ๐๐
